Gav Patel
Colourist & Motion Graphics Designer — Toronto, Canada
Gav Patel is a Toronto-based colourist and motion graphics designer with 18+ years in post-production. The through-line of his career has always been the image: how it moves, how it feels, how it tells the story.
It started at Crush Inc., a broadcast design studio in Toronto, where he spent 3.5 years on idents, title sequences and animation. Those relationships carried into over a decade of work for brands like TD Canada Trust, RBC, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Shoppers Drug Mart and Budweiser — primarily through SJC, Craft Worldwide/McCann MRM and Unreasonable Studios.
Colour grading became a dedicated discipline after he enrolled in Dado Valentic's Colour.Training Master's Program, covering feature film, episodic, commercials, HDR, ACES and look design. He received the Golden Astro for Best Colourist for the program's final practical, presented at Art Basel Miami.
His longest creative partnership has been with documentary filmmaker Jeanette Kong, spanning three films over more than a decade — the most recent of which, Peter Chin: The Blood Remembers, he handled in full: colour grading, editing, motion graphics and archival restoration.
